Opposite Forces Vol 1

by Your Friend Esteves

FoxPuppy I enjoy synthwave songs that sound like they would still work with just piano or guitar. Your Friend Esteves writes such songs. Starting with well-written lyrics and making gorgeous synth tracks for them (and a couple of instrumental jams), you get a volume 1 that makes me want volume 2.

This Time 03:02
This Time This is what I have to tell you a fair story where the hero dies and no one cries this time. And it’s troubling to believe that this what I am becoming and if it all amounts to nothing, this time, no crime. So I counted all my pennies bought a ticket to a ferry that will bring me to another shore. It’s unbalanced and unsteady there’s no trick, there are very few who you bump into and love will shine. And it’s troubling to believe that this what I am becoming and if it all amounts to nothing, This time, no crime. And it’s troubling to believe that this what I am becoming and if it all amounts to nothing, it’s not true, it did mean something this time.

Rise Up 03:19
Rise Up With my head against the window I move into the space where my future vision lies Your laughter is an angel That carries the world so up high Where the rules do not apply. Painted signs on the walls of dangers that will make you fall so you wonder if you’ll try. Rise up to the Sun Shoot into the skies Let it shine upon your eyes You can never be outrun. No matter what may happen Now kick that ball into the sky Don’t even look up, side or behind ‘cause Silence will be your war-cry. Reliving the chapters of this book Written years before me Yellow pages of emotions That I never memorized

Summer Away (by Daniel Hugh) The open road, car stereo conversation slow, Miles and miles to go Drive all day, Endless motorway Turns to narrow lanes as the sun light slowly fades. Cross a line to another time Years and years go by But still you show no sign A year has passed since I saw you last An awkward laugh, a stolen glance. Days are long and nights are clear, nothing ever changes here. Every year I long for you, even though I know the truth We have to say goodbye. A secret meet in the midday heat, exploring streets, the streets we’ve known for years. Just an excuse to be close to you, We both know the rules, but we both fall like fools. Days are long and nights are clear, All summer long we disappear Every year I fall for you, even though I know the truth We have to say goodbye. We know the rules but we fall like fools, (say goodbye) We know the rules but we fall like fools, (say goodbye) We know the rules but we fall like fools, (say goodbye) We know the rules but we fall like fools. (say goodbye)

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known. — Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot, 1994
